The Singapore Pilot.
The Singapore Pilot welcomes you! This is my story…I grew up wanting to be a pilot but that did not work out. I started wearing glasses since I was in primary school. Because of that, I did not managed to pass the medical tests when I applied to become a pilot with the Republic of Singapore Airforce (RSAF). In those days, one needed to have perfect eyesight to pass the medical selection board. Not being able to become a pilot had me really sad for quite a while. I remembered not wanting to get out of bed. In fact, I did not step out of my house for 2 whole weeks! My mother was so worried because she thought I was actually clinically depressed.
Well, I managed to survive that episode and carried on with my life. I went to university, got a degree, married my long-time girlfriend, had 3 kids, and is now a chemical engineer working in a rather sizeable multinational company. But I never did forget my dream to become a pilot. For a while, I lived out my pilot dream by trawling the internet to read up stuff on flying. I also spoke to my pilot friends and other professionals in the industry to learn as much as I could about the aviation world. I was hoping to get my Private Pilot Licence (PPL) and actually fly my own plane one day.
After doing that for a while, I realised that I had collected quite a lot of information about being a pilot in Singapore. Therefore, “The Singapore Pilot” was born. I started “The Singapore Pilot” not only to share all the information I had gathered, but also to provide a platform for all aviation enthusiast to share their stories. Hopefully the aspiring pilots out there will find the information in this blog useful as you move towards realising your flying dreams!
